What God Says About Homosexuality - Part-2

In part one of What God Says About Homosexuality we saw that God clearly defines homosexuality as immoral and sinful, and even calls it detestable and defiling.

So what are we to make of those in the professing church who stand for such things as marrying and ordaining homosexuals? Jude 1:3-7 “Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt I had to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to the saints. For certain men whose condemnation was written about long ago have secretly slipped in among you. They are godless men, who change the grace of our God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord.”

This is exactly what we are witnessing in many churches today, “They are godless men, who change the grace of our God into a license for immorality.” Many today place emphasis on the mercy, grace and love of God to the exclusion of His holiness, justice and demand for us to be purified from our sinful ways. By making God appear to be tolerant of sinful behavior the grace of God is turned into a license to continue living a sinful life.

But God says in 1John 3:6-10, “No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him. Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. He who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous. He who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work. No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God. This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not a child of God; nor is anyone who does not love his brother.”

God speaks very plainly concerning how He views homosexuality in Romans 1:25-27 “They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen. Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.”

Notice God uses the terms “shameful,” “unnatural,” “indecent,” and “perversion” in reference to homosexuality. Also notice that mankind was given over to this sin because they rejected God and His truth.

I encourage you to read Romans 1:18-32. This powerful section of Scripture paints a vivid picture of the condition of our world today and much of the visible church. It explains why things are the way they are. God has given mankind over to a depraved mind because they refuse to acknowledge God or submit to His authority. Mankind has forsaken God, so God has given them over to the sinful desires of their heart.

After listing a wide range of sinful behavior in Romans 1:28-31 God says in verse 32, “Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.”

God holds the church responsible for practicing or approving of sinful behavior by not disciplining those who continue to practice sin of any kind. The question of ordaining homosexuals is not the issue at all. The issue is that a practicing homosexual who refuses to repent after due process should be put out of the church—God forbid we ordain the man! The reason this is not listed as one of the qualifications for elders in 1Timothy and Titus is because this sin is so obvious that the True Church would never even consider such a thing!

What grieves me most about all the corruption in the professing church today is that the name of Jesus is defiled in the eyes of a watching world. The world makes no distinction between the true and the false believers. How can they? For this reason our opportunity to witness to a lost and dying world is greatly hindered by the visible church’s tolerance of blatant sin. No wonder they call us hypocrites. The fact is, those who live like this are hypocrites.

Here’s what God says to the church leaders who are responsible to teach others the way of righteousness. “You who brag about the law, do you dishonor God by breaking the law? As it is written: ‘God’s name is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you.’” (Romans 2:23-24)

Anyone who has to even discuss whether or not homosexuality is acceptable should not be in church leadership. It is obvious that anyone who cannot see the clear instruction of God on this issue could not possibly fulfill their duty to train God’s people in righteousness. For, according to the verses cited in this article, their inability to properly interpret the Bible proves they do not have the Spirit and are certainly not called of God to lead His church.

Sin is not a matter of opinion. Sin is defined by God alone and is not up for debate. Though mankind suffers the consequences of their sin, ultimately all sin is against a Holy God.

My prayer is that all who profess the name of Jesus Christ will confess their sin to the Lord—whatever it may be—and receive His forgiveness and healing. I pray that they will stop blaspheming the Lord’s name among the unbelieving world. And I pray that God grant the false converts among us true repentance unto salvation. Join me in this prayer, who knows, “Perhaps the LORD God Almighty will have mercy,” spare us judgment and grant us revival (Amos 5:15).
